Bankruptcy By-Pass Pro Bono Training

The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland, the Bankruptcy & Commercial Law Section of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association and Benesch Friedlander Coplan & Aronoff LLP have teamed up to bring a pro bono project to Cleveland designed to aid elderly and disabled members of our community obtain debt relief without the burdens of a bankruptcy filing.

Volunteers are asked to commit 2-3 hours every 2-3 months. The time commitment includes attending a client meeting at Legal Aid during which time multiple clients will present assets and liabilities for review. No additional follow-up time is required. Volunteers will receive 2.75 CLE hours for attending the training, at no charge.

Registration: 8:30 a.m., Program: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Lunch: Sponsored by the Bankruptcy & Commercial Law Section. The Section is pleased to welcome the Honorable Jessica Price Smith as our keynote speaker.

Cost: Free for Volunteers or $65 CMBA Members and $95 for Non-Members

The continued participation of Legal Aid’s Save the Dream volunteers is very important as Legal Aid assists homeowners facing foreclosure.

Each month, there is a Brown Bag Lunch hosted by Legal Aid’s Consumer Practice Group.  This informal setting offers substantive support to volunteers.

The monthly lunch session will be held on the first Thursday of the month.  Reservations for the lunch sessions are suggested, but not required.  Click here to RSVP.

CLE for pro bono attorneys: Driver’s License Suspension

The Honorable Deborah J. Nicastro, Robert G. Walton, Esq. and The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland invite you to attend a complimentary CLE training:

Driver’s License Suspension & The Reinstatement Process &
Basics of the “OVI” Statute: ORC 4511.19

An overwhelming number of Ohio residents have driver’s licenses that are suspended or otherwise invalid due to failure to meet reinstatement requirements. Many are unaware of the reasons for suspensions. The training includes sessions reviewing the basics of Court imposed suspensions and BMV imposed suspensions of drivers’ licenses. The training will address the legal process and the steps needed to reinstate a license. Additionally, the training will address an overview of the “OVI” statute.

While there is no cost for the training, attendees will be asked to volunteer at a Pro Bono License Reinstatement Advice Clinic where attorneys will meet with individuals who need help determining the reason for a suspended license and the reinstatement requirements.
