- You went to a trade school (such as Cambridge
Technical Institute, PSI Institute, Dret School) after January 1, 1986
AND
- Did not have a high school diploma or GED when you
started at the school;
AND
- Did not get a diploma or GED while enrolled in the
school.

- You went to a trade school (such as Cambridge
Technical Institute, PSI Institute, Dret School) after January 1, 1986;
AND
- The school closed while you were attending OR within
90 days after you withdrew.

- If you took out a student loan after January 1,
1986;
AND
- Attended less than 60% of the program of study at a
trade school (such as Cambridge Technical Institute, PSI Institute, Dret
School);
AND
- The school did not refund any of the loan back to
the lender.

THEN:
You might not have to pay your student loan.
The legalese for this is that the Department of Education may decide to
discharge your student loans under Federal Regulation 34 C.F.R. § 682.402.
HOW CAN I MAKE THIS
HAPPEN?
Fill out
the appropriate application below. You can fill it in online if you wish and print it. After you
print, send it to the US Department of Education at the address below. There is
only one page to fill out. Instructions are on page 2. The application is in a
format that can be read and filled in using Adobe Acrobat Reader. If you do not
have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can download it at no charge by pressing the Get

To complete the
application:
1.
Click on the appropriate link above to get the proper discharge
application.
2.
Fill out the application as completely as possible, but only answer the
questions you know.
3.
After completing the application, print and sign it.
4.

While the U.S. Department of Education is deciding whether
to discharge your loan, your loan should be in “forbearance.” Forbearance means
that you do not have to make payments, but interest will still be added to your
balance. If your loan is not discharged, you will have to start making payments
again. The Department of Education will send you a written decision.
